Week 38 – Uncomplicate the journey…

12 I wish that those who are troubling you [by teaching that circumcision is necessary for salvation] would even [go all the way and] castrate themselves!

Galatians 5:12

I really don’t know what it is about us as people, but one thing is certain, we will always make things more difficult for ourselves than they need to be. This must be the greatest source of frustration to the Lord – having to watch us live in the complicated while the simple is right in front of us!

To make things worse, we don’t only like to make our personal lives complicated but we tend to make the journey of others complicated too by expecting them to live by the same difficulties we ourselves live by.

This is exactly what Paul had to deal with when talking to the Galatians. A group of men had stepped in and placed unrealistic expectations of salvation for their lives. Paul had to go to great lengths to explain to these new born Christians how unnecessary this all really was by going as far back as the life of Abraham and working his way back to the present.

One might think that this was merely the problem of his day, but sadly nothing has changed in this aspect today. We still find so many men and women complicating the Christians journey for all those around them. Then  they wonder why only a handful of men and women ever come to accept this free gift of salvation given to us through the sacrifice of Christ Jesus.

It is for this reason I was led to spend time looking at this journey we are all walking on, asking the questions as to what really matters, and covering as many topics as possible in the hopes of helping simplify the journey for many. I want their walk with the Lord to be strengthened and their salvation and sanctification would come as a result of their walk with Him.

Is life complicated? Yes, in many aspects it is. Is Christianity complicated? The answer to this is: really not at all! But people would much rather live in the complications of the walk and burn themselves out than enjoy this journey with the Lord.

Jesus Himself said that His yoke is light and that we find rest in Him. If we would simply follow Him, and live in the very instructions He taught His disciples to live, then we would come to see just how simple things can be.

If we are going to reach out to those around us, we are going to have to show them exactly how uncomplicated this journey with the Lord really can be.

Will it require sacrifices from our side? Only if you wish to have a real and close relational walk with the Lord. Are these sacrifices complicated? Not at all. It comes down to a decision (as stated right in the beginning) and then following through for the rest of your life.

My friend, rather than trying to complicate salvation to those you might be reaching out to, show them by living exactly how uncomplicated this journey really is. After all, it is worth it!

Heavenly Father. There are so many things we try and do in our own strength as if to prove our loyalty to You, when really all You desire is a commitment from our side. Help me show those around me exactly how simple this journey with You really is. I pray this in Jesus name. Amen.
