“There is a little boy here who has five barley loaves and two fish; but what are these for so many people?”

John 6:9

Irrespective of the nature of our competitive society, or the mindset that we find ourselves trapped in of thinking that everyone is to take care of me, each and every one of us has something we are able to contribute towards the Kingdom of God.

No contribution is above or below another man’s contribution. If we could wrap our minds around this truth, we would consistently be bringing our contribution to the King.

By simply looking at our scripture reading today, this truth will be evident to us. Could you imagine the disbelieve of the Lord’s disciples as He was about to take this small boy’s contribution and multiply it to the great extent that He did? One thing is for sure, had we been there that day, we too would have frowned at the contribution this young man was willing to bring to the Lord.

His willingness, driven by an unstingy heart, to offer it up to the Lord placed him in the perfect position to see the Lord unfold the miracle that day. Not only did he get to be a part of the miracle, but he got to see first-hand the full extent of what his small portion was able to do.

We often want to hold back our portion because of the belief that what we are bringing to the Lord has little value, and yet the Word of God proves to us over and over again that it’s the small things that the Lord ends up doing the greatest things with.

You might doubt the value of your contribution, but I’m telling you that one day you will be pleasantly surprised when you’re standing in the presence of the Lord. To see the extent of what you sowed in a moment – be it financially, or merely a word of encouragement to a downtrodden soul around you.

If we would stop doubting, we would do more. If we would stop comparing, we would bring more to see the Lord extend His Kingdom. In the world of finances, we are taught that every little bit (be it small or large) that you are willing to pay extra into your bond, significantly reduces the number of months and years you have left to pay, including the amount of interest you are owing to the bank.

A retirement plan started at a young age, be it as a small amount, stands a greater chance of enabling one to retire comfortably than those who bring their large amounts at a later stage in their lives. This principle finds its roots in the Lord and applies to all aspects of life.

My friend. I would encourage you today not to view your portion (your contribution), be it that word of encouragement you want to give to someone, or that need you are praying into for those around you, as something insignificant. See the possibility it carries when placed in the hands of the Lord. Many things in life look insignificant to us, but those are the very things the Lord ends up using to bring about the greatest changes around us.

Placed inside us by the Lord is something from everyone to extend the Kingdom of God. Believe this today.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father. Forgive me for by unbelief. May I bring each offering to You with a willingness to see what You are able to do with. In Your hands I know it will be a contribution that will bring great change. I pray this in Jesus name. Amen.
