13 And the Lord asked Abraham, “Why did Sarah laugh [to herself], saying, ‘Shall I really give birth [to a child] when I am so old?’
Genesis 18:13
It’s no secret that we’re all driven towards specific goals at certain intervals within our lives. At this age we finish our schooling career, followed up by finishing off our studies, getting a job, getting married and so the list goes on. Throughout all this we are still driven by the dreams we carry within, hoping to see them fulfilled within a certain time frame within our lives.
But in life we are faced with a single truth… not everyone reaches every goal at the age they hope to reach it by. We know this and yet most people still tend to give up on the dream within because of this fact. To make up for lost time, people will try and substitute it with the next dream. The only problem is that an unfulfilled dream will always hang around with bitter disappointment, causing us to become more susceptible in giving up on perusing the next goal.
Over a period of time, most end up losing that fire that keeps hope and passion alive within and fall into a slump, living out each day without any drive. How sad it is that so many find themselves in this position, living out their days unfilled. It is God’s desire for us to live a fulfilled life .
It’s hard to bounce back from such a position on our own, but I do believe one could do so by simply asking the following questions: Is God’s timing really our timing? Is His plans determined only by a certain age? The answer to both of course is a hard “No!” Our scripture reading alone illustrates this fact.
Like Sarah, many of us laugh at the notion that God might just be able to accomplish that dream that burns deep within at a later stage of our lives. The word of God constantly reminds us that if He has planned a specific goal, He will make sure we are both mature and ready to fulfil that goal.
To God it’s not just the project that matters, but that the person through which He has planned to fulfil it is also ready.
You might think the dream that burns deep inside should have been fulfilled a long time ago today, but might you considered the following two aspects:
- God’s will versus my will. If it is God’s will, you can rest assure that He will see that it comes to pass. Sarah gave birth to Isaac at the right age. Scripture didn’t change because of her age. It all flowed exactly as God had intended it to. As long as your dream lines up with His will, your hope to see that dream fulfilled remains alive and well.
- Am I ready? While God’s timing remains His timing, we should ensure we are ready when He calls us to fulfil that dream. We do this by practicing our craft, studying and spending time within the presence of the Lord. Nothing is going to fall into our laps. God will always ask us to do our part.
My friend, I don’t know what your dream is, or even what age you are right now, but make sure that you do not get caught up by your own timing. Everything works best when God releases the plan at His timing and according to His Will.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father. Forgive my lack of trust in You. Keep me focused on the fact that You know what is best for me and all those directly affected by the dream I carry within me. Give me strength for those moments I lose hope. But above all, give me wisdom and your divine strategy. I pray this in Jesus name. Amen
