33 But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.

Matthew 6:33

How much consideration have you ever given towards the denomination you belong to? If you haven’t, then do so for a minute by reflecting on the various countries your denomination extends to. The chances are you will realise that you belong to a much larger group than just the church you are in.

Most denominations (A.O.G, Methodist, Full Gospel, Dutch Reformed etc.) find themselves established across the world. But each one of them had a beginning, a person God called to establish them. Can you imagine being that person through whom God established it?

I look at those who head up these various denominations and the hours of hard work they put into keeping them on track, and to the vision and mandate God has called them to. Believe me, if you were able to sit down in such a person’s presence and hear all they do, you too will be taken aback.

As I was thinking about all this, the question about my own contribution came to mind. What am I contributing to the kingdom, and how much of a difference is it making? Is its effect echoing into the generation that are still to come and right into eternity?

I’m sure those that started these denominations never did so with the intention of becoming famous in man’s eyes.  They only ran on the Holy Spirit’s leading, never realising that God was busy establishing something far great than they could ever imagine.

While we like to believe that such a contribution only rests on the shoulders of certain individuals (and probably rightly so), this should never cause us to shy away from leaving all of that only up to them. Everything we do echoes straight into eternity and every bit of contribution we make goes beyond what we are able to see right at this moment.

Those individuals we sit down with, helping them along in their journey, affects another person’s journey who in turn affects someone else. Without us realising it, we are busy at work contributing towards a much larger plan. We will only find out the impact of this when we reach the shores of eternity; when the Lord can point back and reveal to us what was actually busy unfolding.

We cannot afford to sit back, believing what we have to offer isn’t worth its salt. Thinking this way is exactly the what the enemy wants us to believe. Do you think those who started these big denominations ever thought it would reach as far as it did? They might have had a glimpse of what the Lord revealed to them, but still wouldn’t have grasped the bigger picture until they entered eternity.

While you might get frustrated with those around you, or believe the little you are busy with has very little affect, God is busy taking your contribution and adding it to a much bigger picture. The more you are willing to contribute, the bigger the surprise that awaits you and I when we step into eternity.

Keep your eyes fixed on pursuing His will and He will add all these things to your life’s purposes – a great contribution to the Kingdom of God.

Prayer:

Father God. When you call us, it is more than just what I am able to see in the moment. At times I might feel like giving up, but I pray that You would gently remind me that I too am playing a bigger part in Your grand plan. I pray this in Jesus name. Amen.
