10 Your kingdom come, Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven.

Matthew 6:10

If we had to be honest with ourselves, I wonder how many of us carry the urgency within us to see our Lord Jesus return – coming to fetch His bride?

With everything that is busy unfolding all around us today, the pandemics, the wars, the rumours of wars, the famines and the rampant evil running loose in our world, we still have many believers who live comfortably – happy within their own little worlds.

The thought of Jesus returning leaves many a little disappointed as there remains so much they still wish to accomplish in their own lives here on earth. This is really the reality that opposes the Kingdom of God today, something not many of us would like to admit.

This forms part of the reason why many fail to look at (and pursue) what they are able to contribute within the Kingdom of God. As long as we remain in this comfortable state, there will never be an urgency to see the Lord return.

But what could be better than spending eternity in the presence of God? Perhaps our misunderstanding of what it would be like feeds this. We seem to be quite happy with that which we know, even though we face death, disease and heartache all day long.

One thing is certain, this is not the world the Lord would like to leave us behind to live in for all eternity. As such we see Him willingly sacrifice His own life, in the most excruciating way, so that we can find our way to the Father in order to be saved from this world that has fallen. This is the reason for His contribution to the Kingdom, to see people restored and made ready for a better place.

If our hearts were driven by the same desire, to see people finding their way back to the Father in order to be given the hope of a better day to come, we would do all that we could and contribute as much as we could for this to take place.

I’m not talking about being driven by works, as works comes from a place of strife and fear. No, instead we need to be driven by a heart that desires to see His Kingdom come (sooner rather than later), laying aside all our personal plans, dreams and ambitions.

Sadly, in our lives our personal kingdoms still take preference over the Kingdom of God. We carry more of a heart to see our dreams and desires come to pass than that of a better world for all. As a result, we don’t think about our contribution to the Kingdom of God, rather we are happy with all that takes place in our own lives.

My friend, be honest with yourself today. Do you really desire to see the Lord return today, fetching all those who belong to Him, or do you secretly still wishing to accomplish more in your personal life, hoping that the Lord would instead return another day?

Herein lies the reason why many still don’t consider contributing to the Kingdom of God as important.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father. Today I might just have realised again that in my life, my kingdom trumps Your Kingdom. Place inside of me an urgency to see Your Kingdom come where all of mankind would be able to live together in Your glorious presence. I pray this in Jesus name. Amen.
