Week 32 – An unassuming life…

12 giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified us to share in the inheritance of the saints (God’s people) in the Light.

Colossians 1:12

As we reflect on the fact that this journey requires a great deal of endurance from our side, we also now realise that it means more than just making our way through to the end. Within the endurance we also recognize the fact that we are able to make the most of the journey and live in such a way that displays that we are able to enjoy it to the full.

This is part of our inheritance and as such we live constantly giving thanks to our Heavenly Father, having been included in this incredible journey and inheritance.

If I may pose this question to you: Does your life reflect this gratitude of a life being lived in full, or are you living in a way that displays to a world around you just how taxing this journey can

To say that this world desperately needs a form of hope would be putting things mildly. Simply looking around us, one would find them constantly looking for that something that is able to uplift them and give their lives meaning. It’s why men and women would put so much time into projects and businesses so that they would feel that they have accomplished some form of meaning in their lives.

Others would look for a good time, even if it were in the area of sin, in order to enjoy their time here on earth. All the while we as children of God sit with the answer to the real meaning of life and a life worth doing all over again. Yes, your life is able to display what this world is looking for, and while you might feel that your life is unassuming (like no one is watching), you would be very surprised just how intently you are being watched.

When I was in high school, I very much chose the way of the cross, following Jesus and becoming involved with the things of God. I didn’t hang out with the ‘in’ crowd, as I didn’t see myself in their ‘league’. To them I seemed like a nobody.

I remember getting onto the bus one day after school when one of those ‘in crowd’ people called me by name. I had known him quite well as everyone else did too, but that he would know me was quite surprising. I don’t remember the exact memory today but I’m certain there was a moment of recognizing my involvement with the Lord, and as such he gave me this sense of respect.

This unassuming young man (me), who was only trying to make his way through life while holding onto the Lord, was being watched from a distance. This just proved to me again how important it is for us to live out our lives in such a way that displays we have this hope and life of fullness in Christ.

While it may seem like nobody is paying attention, I would remind you today that you are being watched. If you call yourself a believer (a Christian), you need to know that every action, every decision, your very demeaner is being observed by someone who is looking for this life of abundance we ourselves desire to fully walk in alongside the Lord.

This inheritance God has promised us is on display for this world to see. Let us be sure to display it correctly and to the best of our ability.

Lord Jesus, I know that my life is testimony of all You are doing in and through me. Help me to display a life of meaning and fullness to an onlooking world around me. I pray this in Your name. Amen.
