Week 10 – Truth and lies…

43 Why do you misunderstand what I am saying? It is because [your spiritual ears are deaf and] you are unable to hear [the truth of] My word

…When he lies, he speaks what is natural to him, for he is a liar and the father of lies and half-truths.

John 8:43 – 44

We spend one more day looking at the importance of truth in the battles we come face to face with in everyday life. We do this by reminding ourselves of the fact that Satan is the father of all lies

Contrary to the fact that Jesus is the truth, Satan has a full understanding of the Word of God and has been in this game (as said before) for longer than humanity has been around. It’s not that difficult to understand how the enemy can jeopardize the journey of so many, making them end up falling by the wayside.

This once again should highlight the importance of knowing the truth and living by it.

Every lie this world has followed and chosen to believe, whether it be ‘there are many roads that lead to heaven’, ‘hell and Satan are only campfire talks to keep people in moral check’, ‘a loving God won’t send people to hell’right down to ‘everything we see around us happened by chance’, all stem from an enemy who knows how to get people to believe and do what he says.

If he can get Christians to question the very word of truth (the Bible), then we best be on our guard against an enemy that knows how to twist even the most accurate of truths. This calls for men and women to be Spirit filled, born again believers who will allow the Word of God, and the Spirit who wrote that word, to lead them so that they can be less susceptible to the wiles of the enemy.

Our Lord knew exactly how to recognize the enemy’s involvement in a given moment. This we see again in our reading today as Jesus points out his involvement then and there. Being filled with the Holy Spirit and knowing the truth, Jesus doesn’t allow the enemy to distract Him from the mission God has sent Him to complete, as so many others have allowed.

My friend, this world of ours has been listening to the father of lies for far too long and the fruit of that is evident to all who would open their eyes and see. Things that are so simple can easily be complicated to even the most intellectual minds, because the devil knows how to make things appear true when they are far from it.

The only thing I can say to you is that truth is simpler than you think, and the only way you are not going to be sidetracked by an enemy is by spending time cultivating a strong healthy relationship with the Lord. This of course will take many years to cultivate, but it is something that will help you be immovable in the end.

The word of truth (the Bible) is how you get to know the voice of the Lord and the leading of the Holy Spirit. Make sure you get to know it just as well as the devil knows it. In the end, our weapon of telling Satan to get behind us is found when we are able to speak the word of truth and use the word of truth which is our sword, to speak it back against the lies he wants to feed you and I.

Dear Lord. Help me not to be misled by the many lies the enemy wants to make me believe. Keep me grounded in Your every word and give me the wisdom to use this word to fight back. I pray this in Your Holy Name. Amen.
